Top Ten Naruto Techniques

One of the most entertaining parts of the Naruto franchise is the amazing variety of secret ninja techniques the characters use. The complicated but impressive-looking hand gestures, the unique physical attributes, and the pure unadulterated destructive power of the ninjutsu are some of the things that make the series wildly popular.

These are the ten coolest ninja techniques in Naruto, and by cool, we mean totally sweet.
10. Sexy Jutsu

One of Naruto's trademarks and personal favorites, the Sexy Jutsu turns the user into a voluptuous nude woman with nosebleed inducing beauty. It's only mildly useful against male opponents (and maybe certain female ones), but its battle effectiveness isn't really all that important now is it fellas?

Mix this with the multiplication benefits of the Shadow Clone Jutsu and you have a combination that would ensure that no young man with this ability would ever need to leave the house.

Speaking of the Shadow Clone Jutsu…

9. Shadow Clone Jutsu

The Shadow Clone Jutsu produces multiple copies of the caster. They're not as sturdy as the real thing and will disappear if handled too roughly (if they get stabbed, for instance).

Ever felt like there just wasn't enough of you to go around? Well with the power of the Shadow Clone Jutsu you can be everywhere at once! Got too many chores to do? Trying to find your keys? Got a dozen angry ninjas on your butt? No problem! The Shadow Clone Jutsu can get you out of all sorts of trouble, but having a bunch of copies of yourself running around has got to be just a little bit disturbing.

8. Crystal Ice Mirrors

A technique used by Haku, one of the early bad guys in the series. The technique creates a number of mirrors made of ice to surround opponents in a small dome. Haku can enter the mirrors and travel between them at near instantaneous speed. Even though the mirrors are made of ice, Haku has reinforced them with a special technique to make them immune to most fire techniques.

When inside his mirrors, Haku almost exists in a different dimension that he can practically teleport around in. While Haku wasn't the most powerful enemy Naruto and his friends have faced, we wonder how kick ass the ability would have been if Haku had more time to refine it.

7. Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu

The Fireball Jutsu is one of the more basic ninja techniques, and in the Uchiha family the mastery of this ability is required for being considered a man (like some kind of weird ninja Bar Mitzvah). The Fireball Jutsu gives the user the ability to breathe a huge fireball at will. It's certainly useful in many battle situations, but it would also be great for entertaining at parties and handy for barbecues when the lighter fluid runs low.

6. Shadow Possession Jutsu

The trademark justsu of the Nara clan, the Shadow Possession Jutsu allows the caster to extend his or her own shadow to the shadow of another person. Once the shadow connection is made, the caster can control the movements of their victim. And the best part is that it can be used on multiple opponents! The only problem is that the technique works both ways; if the victim's body is moved by forces beyond their control (like if they get knocked over), then the caster will be affected too. The shadow jutsu is useful because you can make others do your bidding, but it's not quite as effective at remote control as the next jutsu on our list.

5. The Mind Transfer Jutsu

This is probably the only notable thing that Ino Yamankaka has going for her, but it's pretty impressive. The mind transfer jutsu is the trademark skill of the Yamanaka family and gives the caster the ability to transfer their spirit to another person's body and control it for a short period of time.

The jutsu comes with a long list of disclaimers and hazards though, including the fact that if the target of the jutsu dies while the caster's spirit is still in them, then the caster dies too. Still, mind control ranks high on the coolmeter so it's definitely worth the risk.

4. The Sharingan

One of the specialties of Kakashi the Copy Cat Ninja and the members of the Uchiha clan, the Sharingan has many characteristics including the ability to see in a kind of slow-motion to follow fast moving objects and the movements of opponents. Add a certain degree of hypnosis power to it and you've got yourself a pretty neat little jutsu. But the Sharingan's most notable power gives the user the ability to copy nearly any jutsu they see (certain types of jutsu are immune). It's the ultimate slap in the face to any ninja that might be a bit too proud of their skills. "Oh yeah, that technique's cool. It took you how many years to learn that? Oh, that's a shame…I just learned it…a second ago. Thanks."

While very useful, and very cool because of the red eye effect that comes with it, the Sharingan doesn't appear higher on this list because it isn't very original. Jockin' somebody else's style is SO not pimp. It's better to originate, not imitate. Besides that, the Sharingan is possibly descended from…

3. The Byakugan

Pale irises and pupils make it easy to spot users of the Byakugan, or White Eye technique, the specialty technique of the Hyuga ninja family. The Byakugan jutsu bestows nearly 360 degree vision for hundreds of feet (except for one little blindspot). It can even see through solid objects (including people) and zoom in.

The applications for this kind of technique in everyday use are infinite in number. It might also explain Steve Nash's unparalleled court vision and mad passing skillz. Maybe he wears contacts to hide it….

2. Chidori

An original creation of Kakashi, the Chidori (or Thousand Birds technique) focuses intense lighting energy into the hand of the user, which can then be used to destroy pretty much any object in its path. When fully powered up, the technique makes a loud noise similar to many birds chirping (hence the name).

Since Kakashi created this jutsu, he's the most powerful user of it (though Sasuke is advancing quickly). Rumor has it that Kakashi once used a version of this technique to split a bolt of lightning in half.

Yes, that's pretty damn amazing.

1. Rasengan

Ah yes, the Rasengan. When you absolutely, positively, got to kill every mother****** in the room, accept no substitutes! Considered to be in the upper echelon of jutsu, the Rasengan was created by the Fourth Hokage. The technique manifests as a handheld ball containing a maelstrom of spinning chakra that does massive damage. Naruto learns this technique and adds his own "spin" to it, so to speak.

This technique is difficult to master, and Naruto can't even do it without summoning shadow clones to help, but man is it worth the effort.

Honorable Mention:

1000 Years of Pain

Though Kakashi calls it a secret ninja technique and dubs it a jutsu, chances are that he just made it up on the spot. Japanophiles and naruto-fans that have done their research know that the technique is just the old kancho prank that's popular amongst Japanese elementary school kids. But Naruto does use it in grand fashion in a certain pivotal battle, so it does at least have some practical purpose in the series.

Besides, it's the one "jutsu" you can actually do at home! Just make sure your target doesn't have problems with bowel control first. To properly form the jutsu, entwine the fingers of the hands but leave the index fingers and thumbs pointed straight out. Then sneak up behind your opponent, coil your legs like a cat about to strike, summon the power of your ancestors and then….well…stick your fingers up their butt. Truly a ninja technique for the ages.
