SEGA Superstars Tennis Interview

Image
A few months back we caught wind that SEGA was working on a new title for 2008. SEGA Superstars Tennis is being developed by Sumo Digital (makers of Virtua Tennis 3) and hitting all consoles in the first half of next year. For a bit more info on this ode to classic SEGA goodness, we met up with Omar Woodley, producer for SEGA Superstars Tennis for some additional info on the game, as well as a sneak peak of both the Wii and DS versions of the game with first ever screens. Check out our brief Q&A on the game, and be sure to see the first shots of SEGA Superstars Tennis in action. Enjoy.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Interview

Image
Anyone who owned an Xbox 360 in November of 2006 picked up one of two games -- or, if you're lucky enough, you bought both -- Rainbox Six Vegas or Epic's Gears of War. While Gears was certainly the more hyped of the two titles, Rainbox Six Vegas rose to the forefront of many gamers' minds as a contender for Game of the Year. While it did concede the honors in the end, the series clearly made the jump to high-definition gaming much easier than others. Some say it was the first fully realized Xbox 360 game to come on the market. Period. We would agree. Now Ubisoft is preparing to unleash the sequel to the masses in Spring 2008. The game brings several new features and modes to the mix so in order to keep all of our sub-machine gun totting ducks in a row we sat down with Jean-Pascal Cambiotti, the Lead Game Designer for Rainbow Six Vegas 2 to get the skinny. The cover system works in the same manner as the one in RSV. However, with the addition of the sprint feature, you'l

Top Ten Naruto Techniques

Image
One of the most entertaining parts of the Naruto franchise is the amazing variety of secret ninja techniques the characters use. The complicated but impressive-looking hand gestures, the unique physical attributes, and the pure unadulterated destructive power of the ninjutsu are some of the things that make the series wildly popular. These are the ten coolest ninja techniques in Naruto, and by cool, we mean totally sweet. 10. Sexy Jutsu One of Naruto's trademarks and personal favorites, the Sexy Jutsu turns the user into a voluptuous nude woman with nosebleed inducing beauty. It's only mildly useful against male opponents (and maybe certain female ones), but its battle effectiveness isn't really all that important now is it fellas? Mix this with the multiplication benefits of the Shadow Clone Jutsu and you have a combination that would ensure that no young man with this ability would ever need to leave the house. Speaking of the Shadow Clone Jutsu… - Viz 9. Shadow Clone Ju

The Characters of Grand Theft Auto IV

Image
Grand Theft Auto games are nothing if not epic. Their stories are long, twisting, complicated and filled with charismatic and interesting characters. While most everything comes back to your driving and shooting skills, the reasons for your actions are as varied as the people who hand out your tasks. Grand Theft Auto IV will of course be no exception to the rule. The list of characters that we've seen from the handful of trailers alone is rather lengthy, though aside from names we have almost no context as to who any of these folks actually are. Until now, that is. Rockstar has given us an inside look at a handful of the characters that you'll come across during your journeys in Liberty City, so take a look. Roman Bellic Roman is Niko's cousin. He has been living in Liberty City pursuing the American dream - fast cars, women, hot tubs, luxury condos. At least these are the things he has been telling Niko about. Instead, he operates a cab stand in Broker and, a born optimis

Arkadian Warriors Review

Image
It's easy to get excited about the idea behind Arkadian Warriors . There's something about cooperative dungeon crawlers that makes them fun, despite the highly repetitious gameplay. Arkadian Warriors is lacking that certain something. It's lacking quite a bit more, as well, like level design, story and character progression. If you're looking for a game that is completely generic in every possible way, look no farther. Arkadian Warriors begins in a village. So far, so good. There's a shop, a person that will offer you a quest, a fountain to toss coins into and…well that's about it. This is just a hub for the series of boring fetch quests and poor boss battles that are to follow. From the town, you can upgrade your weapons, helmet and armor, move on to your next quest, or replay old quests. After you play the first quest, you might find yourself thinking that the game isn't half bad. You've got one button for attacks, another to activate your Alter Ego (a

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock UK Review

Image
If you haven't played a Guitar Hero game by now, it's probably down to one of two reasons: you're so rhythmically disinclined that letting you loose on the dance floor is tantamount to arming an epileptic with a battle axe in a crowded room and turning the strobes on. Alternatively, I dunno, you've just woken from a coma/escaped from jail/shaved your beard for the first time in 15 years and the whole thing is a new, barely conceivable concept. If that last lot's you, all you really need to know is that Guitar Hero III is mostly super. Of course, if you're an old hand at this pseudo-fretting lark, the most important thing to stress is that GHIII is almost exactly the same game as its gazillion-selling predecessors - online multiplayer mode aside. This time though, original developer Harmonix has left the building, the series now in the capable hands of Neversoft. Ordinarily, a switch in development duties probably wouldn't raise much of an eyebrow. However, w

Call of Duty 4: Collector's Edition Review

Image
They say war is hell. Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare takes you to the very depths of Hades. The long-awaited COD4, IW's follow-up to the excellent Call of Duty 2, is a jarring, intense, and gripping take on war in the new millennia. The enemies are smarter, the weapons are deadlier, and the grenades all too plentiful. COD4 will shake loose your fillings and have you begging for more. Infinity Ward was born out of the success of retelling some of the greatest battles in World War II. The company has become synonymous with the virtual beach at Normandy. So it was quite a gamble to break from the comfort zone of Nazi-occupied Europe and leap into present day. The gamble paid off. Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, and every other military-based shooter has been put on notice. There is a new standard to judge this sub-genre and it is Call of Duty 4. The meticulous care IW took to faithfully recreate WWII-era weaponry was also given to bringing modern armaments to life. Many

NCAA March Madness 08 Review

Image
The college basketball season is like a locomotive shooting down the side of a mountain. It starts slowly, pushing off from a fully stopped position then continues to build speed and momentum until it reaches its terminal velocity, symbolized in college round ball by the tournament to end all tournaments, otherwise known as March Madness. Each year EA Sports' collegiate contender of the same name goes through a similar process of releasing to little fanfare and then gaining popularity as the suspense and excitement for the NCAA Tournament builds. For basketball gaming diehards however, their fix for college b-ball has just arrived for the ensuing season. Does it perform under pressure or crumble at the first sight of adversity? Each year NCAA March Madness focuses on one new feature that will hopefully help to deliver a more complete basketball package to fans. This year that one focal point of development attention is low-post play, both on offense and defense. EA Canada has said

Devil May Cry 4 New Look

Image
About a month and a half ago, Capcom finally exposed a little bit more gameplay from Devil May Cry 4 , its highly anticipated action title. At Capcom's Gamer's Day event, Producer Hiroyuki Kobayashi highlighted a number of gameplay features, such as Nero and Dante's first battle, Dante's new weapons and Nero's augmented powers. Recently, we were fortunate enough to have Kobayashi come into our offices to show us a little more of the game, as well as sit down and answer some questions about the title itself. Kobayashi started off the demo by showing Nero's advancement to Fortuna Castle once again, which let him highlight some of Nero's different moves. For example, the Blue Rose, Nero's pistol, can be boosted with an attack known as a Demon Charge, which makes each shot from the gun more powerful. This can be coupled with Buster punches and throws from the Devil Bringer arm that Nero has to perform extremely strong combos to eliminate opponents. The Demon

Burnout Paradise Update

Image
Last week we brought you a look at the forthcoming downloadable demo for Burnout Paradise , set to hit the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live on December 13th. While the demo is great fun, it's nothing compared to what you'll find in the full game, which we've been burning through ever since. It's no secret that Criterion Games likes to reinvent things every time out. Though many deemed Burnout 3: Takedown to be pretty much perfection, the studio went ahead and changed a lot of things with its follow-up, Burnout Revenge. And now with Burnout Paradise, the studio has made even more sweeping changes to the design. For starters, the entire game is set in the open world of Paradise City, and the whole thing is unlocked right from the start. You can partake in any race or event that you want, and there are no off-limit sections of the city. You'll have to work your way through the game to get better cars, of course, but the city is yours for exploring right away. Blink

Final Fantasy Tactics : War of Lions

Image
Almost ten years ago, Square Enix introduced Final Fantasy Tactics, one of the best and most critically acclaimed turn based strategy titles ever seen on the PlayStation or any other console. The adventure, set in the now familiar game world of Ivalice, surrounded a huge war that splintered the land in two. Now, Square Enix is re-releasing this title with a number of technical enhancements for the PSP. Is The War of the Lions the definitive edition of the classic RPG? Yes, but you will have to allow for a number of classic and new issues that inconvenience many of the new features in the title. For those of you not familiar with the storyline of Final Fantasy Tactics, I'll provide a brief explanation of the general themes and basic scenario of the title without spoiling anything. The game covers political intrigue, betrayal, class warfare, divided allegiances, murder, manipulation and numerous other topics. You know -- light, cheery fare. War of the Lions is set up thanks to the pr

FIFA Soccer 2008

Image
You've got to hand it to EA Sports--whatever the platform, the developer knows how to take advantage of the hardware. FIFA 08 for the PlayStation Portable offers pretty much everything you could ask of a handheld football game, with local and online multiplayer, multiple game modes, and the ability to transfer data to and from the PlayStation 2. It also plays a solid game of football, and while it's not up to the standard of the home console versions, it's definitely fun to play. The PSP version of FIFA 08 packs an impressive 12,600 players onto its UMD. EA Sports has crammed a lot into the game this year, and much of the content is exclusive to the PSP. While there are the usual quick match and tournament options, the supplementary modes really add a lot of longevity to the game. Take the football IQ mode, for example: It's a football q
